The Auburn Symphony has named a new maestro: Peter Jaffe will lead the orchestra as it heads into its 25th season.
Jaffe, conductor of the conductor of the Stockton Symphony, led the Auburn players in their April concert at the Mondavi Center in Davis. Jaffe will continue to work in Stockton as he takes on his new role in Auburn.
Jaffe was unanimously selected by the symphony’s search committee, which reviewed more than 60 applicants from around the world to replace longtime Maestro Michael Goodwin, who was killed in a car crash in February.
“He has the great hunger to communicate both to members of the community, and the children and the schools, etc.,” said Alan Clark, principal cellist and member of the selection committee. “He has an avid interest in music that is going to be wonderful for our community to experience.”
A “meet the maestro” event will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the State Theater. Look for a full interview with Jaffe and symphony representatives in Thursday’s Journal.
