Richard Altenbach


Formerly 1st Violinist of the Los Angeles Chamber, LA Opera, Joffrey Ballet, and Houston Symphony Orchestras, he has also served as Concertmaster of the Mozart Camerata, Associate Concertmaster of the Omaha Symphony and Hollywood Bowl Orchestras, and member of the Fontenelle String Quartet and performs as Associate Concertmaster of Berkeley Symphony.  An active chamber musician, Richard has been a featured soloist locally for Music in the Mountains, InConcert Sierra, and the Apollo Arts Ensemble.  Having lived in Southern California for many years, Richard is a sought-after studio musician and has participated in over 1000 film scores.  He has performed live on the Academy Awards and The Tonight Show and collaborated with Frank Sinatra, YoYo Ma, and Mannheim Steamroller among many others.

Richard composes for concert stage, film and video games.  He was chosen among 12 composers worldwide to participate in the ASCAP Film Composers Workshop, and recently scored a prize-winning short film that was featured at Sundance.  He is a member of the Nevada County Composers Cooperative.

Richard and his wife Dawn are the proud parents of a very musical son, Bren, and reside in Nevada County.
